The Industrial Pharmacists Association of Ghana (IPA) on the 5th December 2025 marked a significant milestone with the successful organization of its maiden Family Day Out, a first-of-its-kind event designed to blend professional learning with recreation, bonding, and well-being. Held across two key locations—Atlantic Life Sciences at Pampram and Treasure Island Resort in Ada—the event attracted pharmacists, their families, and industry partners for a full day of enriching experiences.
The initiative forms part of IPA’s renewed agenda to strengthen member engagement, promote work–life balance, and create positive avenues for collaboration beyond the traditional professional setting. From technical insights into pharmaceutical production to family-centered leisure activities, the event offered participants a rare and refreshing balance between industry exposure and informal social interaction.
Educational Tour at Atlantic Life Sciences
The day began with a highly informative tour at Atlantic Life Sciences, one of Ghana’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturing firms and a crucial contributor to the country’s health sector supply chain. Upon arrival, IPA members and their families were warmly welcomed by officials of the company, who then guided them into a structured walkthrough of the facility.
Participants were introduced first to the Small Volume Parenteral (SVP) Production Unit, an advanced sterile environment where injectable medicines—typically packaged in ampoules and vials—are manufactured. The tour provided firsthand insights into the meticulous processes involved in SVP production, including aseptic techniques, filtration systems, sterilization steps, and automated filling lines. Visitors observed how strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) ensures that every product meets safety, sterility, and quality specifications.
From the SVP unit, the group proceeded to the Large Volume Parenterals (LVP) Unit, which produces essential intravenous fluids that support hospitals and health centers across Ghana and beyond. Families witnessed how large-scale production equipment, quality testing systems, and controlled environments work together to ensure the safe manufacture of lifesaving solutions such as glucose, normal saline, and electrolyte-balanced fluids. For many participants—especially the younger attendees—the experience offered a new appreciation of the work industrial pharmacists do behind the scenes to maintain national health security.
The tour continued into the facility’s Warehouse Units, where Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), excipients, packaging materials, and finished pharmaceuticals are safely stored. Facilitators explained the importance of environmental controls, batch tracking systems, and regulatory compliance in pharmaceutical warehousing. For IPA members, the tour reinforced the importance of robust supply chain practices, while for families it provided an eye-opening look into the invisible but critical steps families it provided an eye-opening look into the invisible but critical steps involved in delivering safe medicines to patients.
Many participants described the facility tour as both inspiring and enlightening, commending Atlantic Life Sciences for its operational excellence, discipline, and commitment to quality.
A Transition to Relaxation at Treasure Island Resort
Following the educational tour, the Family Day Out shifted gears as participants embarked on a bus ride to Treasure Island Resort in Ada, a facility known for its scenic waterfront views, vibrant recreational offerings, and serene atmosphere. Upon arrival, the mood transformed from technical immersion to lively leisure, signaling the beginning of an afternoon dedicated to bonding, fun, and mental refreshment.
Families wasted no time exploring the resort’s vast recreational options. Children and adults alike enjoyed a variety of outdoor and indoor games including horse riding, table tennis, lawn tennis, and table football. The spacious environment encouraged free interaction among members, allowing colleagues who traditionally meet under formal conditions to unwind and socialize casually.
The horse-riding segment attracted particular excitement, offering attendees—many of them first-timers—a chance to try a unique and adventurous activity. Others preferred quieter moments, lounging by the lakeside, taking photos, or engaging in friendly competitions. The resort’s atmosphere fostered meaningful conversations, laughter, and a sense of community rarely achieved in routine professional engagements.
Chairman’s Address: A Call for Stronger Member Engagement
A highlight of the day was the address delivered by the IPA Chairman, Dr. Raymond Agbadi, PhD, who expressed deep appreciation for the impressive attendance and the spirited participation demonstrated throughout the event. He emphasized that the Family Day Out was not merely a recreational outing, but an intentional effort by the Association to promote unity, stress relief, and stronger interpersonal connections among industrial pharmacists.
Dr. Agbadi underscored the increasingly demanding nature of pharmaceutical practice, especially within the industrial sector where long hours, regulatory responsibilities, and production pressures can strain both mental and physical wellbeing. He encouraged members to embrace social initiatives like the Family Day Out as essential tools for maintaining balance, resilience, and overall wellness.
He also issued a call for greater participation in subsequent IPA activities, noting that active member engagement strengthens the association’s voice, builds capacity, and enhances collective growth. He highlighted that such events foster a family-friendly community around IPA—a positive step toward nurturing future generations of professionals.
Acknowledgment to Atlantic Life Sciences
In his remarks, Dr. Agbadi extended heartfelt appreciation to Atlantic Life Sciences, with a special mention of Mr. Dhananjay Tripathi and his leadership team, for kindly opening their manufacturing facility to IPA and for providing exceptional hospitality throughout the tour. He described the collaboration as a commendable example of industry openness and stakeholder support, reflecting the shared commitment to advancing Ghana’s pharmaceutical manufacturing landscape.
Many members echoed this sentiment, praising Atlantic Life Sciences for offering families a rare opportunity to witness pharmaceutical production firsthand—an experience that deepens public trust in local manufacturing capabilities.
A Successful Beginning and a Promising Future
By the end of the day, participants expressed a unanimous sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. The combination of education, family interaction, and recreation created cherished memories while reinforcing the importance of work–life balance in high-pressure professions.
